Proposed Patriot Path gets key approval

A key milestone in the proposed multiuse Patriot Path along Route 137 from near Libertyville to Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago was reached with recent design approval by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The path is planned to run 5.5 miles and be a key connection to other regional trails such as the Robert McClory bike path and Des Plaines River Trail.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to safely commute to work and school with connections to parks, forest preserves and transit stops.

IDOT approval means the project can move to a more detailed stage.

The estimated $30 million project has been divided into four segments with construction planned on the west and east ends first as early as 2026.
