Man charged with kidnapping teen girl

A man has been charged with kidnapping a teenage girl on a street in Aurora.

Daniel Raines, 19, of the 200 block of E. New York St., Aurora, is charged with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping and aggravated battery, all felonies. He also is charged with misdemeanor battery, according to Aurora police.

Police say that at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 17-year-old girl told them a man she didn’t know followed her while she was walking in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue. The man then grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand, and dragged her away from the sidewalk.

She freed herself, and the man ran off.

Police arrested Raines around 3:20 p.m. at North Avenue and River Street.

A Kane County judge on Thursday ordered that Raines be detained pretrial, according to court records.
