Butterfly Release June 1 at Northwest Community Hospital

To help parents and families coping with the loss of a baby, Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) is hosting its annual Butterfly Release at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the hospital, 800 W. Central Road, Arlington Heights. The event is hosted by NCH’s Perinatal Bereavement Program and has been held for more than a decade, according to Kathryn Beam, Perinatal Palliative Care and Bereavement coordinator for Women’s and Children’s Services at NCH.

Parents who have experienced a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or a newborn/infant death will gather at this event to remember their lost babies. With parents’ permission, names of children remembered will be read aloud at the event. Families will meet on the front lawn by the main entrance for a ceremony and from there will walk to the Remembrance Garden to release butterflies. Approximately 100 Painted Lady Butterflies will be released in the garden outside of the North Pavilion of the hospital campus.

For information or to have a baby’s name read aloud, email Kathryn Beam BSN, RNC-OB at kbeam@nch.org.
