Chicago Dogs’ bats still silent in loss at Winnipeg

Chicago Dogs offense failed to back up Kenny Serwa’s complete game as the team dropped another game in Winnipeg 2-1.

After dropping the previous two games due to lack of run support, the Chicago Dogs looked to turn it around behind Serwa.

Serwa continued to eat innings for Chicago, lasting the entire game on the mound, striking out six and walking none, only allowing two runs.

When a starting pitcher throws a complete game, it is expected for his offense to work with him. This wasn’t the case for the Dogs, who only reached base a total of five times throughout the game.

Dogs manager Jeff Isom went a slightly different route ahead of today’s game, altering the lineup in a couple ways. Catcher Nick Dalesandro advanced to the leadoff spot, where his slump continued despite the extra at-bats, batting 0 for 4 with a strikeout, lowering his batting average to .211.

General MacArthur IV got the start in left field over Jesus Lujano. MacArthur hit 0 for 3, while scoring the Dogs’ lone run of the night. MacArthur, who’s only started two games this year, has struggled to reach base, lowering his on-base percentage to 0.125 after Wednesday night’s performance.

Former major-league pitcher Zac Reininger started on the mound for Winnipeg, lasting for six innings, striking out five, only allowing one run. Winnipeg’s bullpen shut down the Dogs for three innings, not allowing a hit, striking out five batters.

Chicago will look to avoid the sweep in Game 3, in search of its first road win.
