What could be reason to shun seniors?
All articles in the Herald pointed to our representatives in
Illinois repealing the law that road tests senior citizens. Yet now
we find out that it has hit a roadblock. To all representatives
who voted no, here are the facts.
The Secretary of State’s Office did a comprehensive study
and found out that seniors are among the safest drivers. This alone
should have repealed the law.
The Illinois Department of Transportation stated that the older
we get, the fewer the accidents. This alone should have repealed the law.
The two main causes of accidents are speeding and distracted
driving. It is common knowledge that seniors don't speed and the
Herald stated crash statistics reveal that young drivers are most
prone to breaking the law due to distracted driving. This a!one should have repealed the law.
Young drivers pay the highest insurance rates because of their
limited experience, their statistically higher risk of getting into an
accident, and they are more likely to file a claim. This alone
should have repealed the law.
DUIs, road rage, car racing, fleeing and eluding police,
carjacking and having guns in the car are all crimes done by the
younger population. This alone should have repealed the law.
An article in the Herald stated that seniors pass their tests more
than the general population. This a!one should have repealed the law!
Illinois stands alone on this issue. Forty-nine other states never road test
seniors and say it is discriminatory and unconstitutional. This alone
should have repealed the law.
Senior voices need to be heard. Write, call or email and let our
representatives know we demand equality and justice. They have
no right to target an age group that have all the redeeming facts
on their side. What could possibly be their opposition? Illegal
ageism?
