Dogs lose to Sioux City, take two of three in series
The Chicago Dogs lost 5-2 to the Sioux City Explorers in Sunday’s series finale.
After a huge four run rally in the eighth inning Saturday night, the Dogs were searching for a series sweep over Sioux City.
Brooks Gosswein, the Chicago suburb native, started on the mound for the Dogs. After a rocky first start at Lake Country for Gosswein, the lefty settled in and lasting into the fifth inning while allowing two earned runs and striking out six.
Command was tricky for Gosswein, who gave up five hits and walked six. A similar trend continued for Dogs pitchers, as both Matt Walker and Eon Walda gave up runs in relief.
The Dogs offense failed to find a rhythm, collecting only three hits, while striking out 13 times.
Sioux City starting pitcher Jared Wetherbee struck out nine while allowing one run on two hits. This season the former Philadelphia Phillies prospect has pitched 10.0 innings, striking out 15 batters and allowing two runs.
Chicago now begins a six-game road trip, traveling to Winnipeg followed by a series rematch at Sioux City.
