Bartlett power outage caused by crash involving driver charged with DUI

A power outage affecting approximately 800 Bartlett residents late Monday afternoon was caused by a vehicle striking and damaging a utility pole, leading to its driver being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Estelle A. Goddard, 63, of Bartlett was charged with the Class A misdemeanor and also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, according to Bartlett police.

Officers responded at about 6:40 p.m. to the area of Devon Avenue and Wilmington Drive, where a 2017 Toyota Camry traveling westbound had left the roadway and struck a ComEd utility pole, police said.

Devon Avenue was closed between Newport Lane and Wilmington Drive for about four hours while crews repaired the damaged utility pole.

Goddard was granted pretrial release with a future court date to be assigned at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
