Des Plaines hosts community resource fair May 21

A community resource fair is scheduled for May 21 in Des Plaines.

The event is set for the Westerhold Early Learning Center, which is attached to Forest Elementary School, 1375 S. Fifth Ave. It will run from 5 to 7 p.m.

Participating organizations will include the Des Plaines Public Library, the Des Plaines Park District, the Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines, Access to Care and the Des Plaines History Center.

“We are excited to open the doors of the early learning center to our community so they can learn more about the services we offer our youngest learners,” learning center Director Margarite Beniaris said in a news release.

Admission is free.

People should enter the school through Door 11, on the side of the building that faces Forest Avenue. The early learning center is District 62’s preschool facility.

For more information or to host a booth at the fair, contact Julie Ritzema at ritzemaj@d62.org or (847) 789-5613.

The community resource fair will coincide with a food truck roundup at Forest Elementary School. It will run from 5 to 8 p.m.

In addition to buying food from mobile chefs, people can play games and enjoy the music of Mel Senese. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

“We look forward to this exciting collaboration with the City of Des Plaines and hope to see our community on May 21,” Beniaris said.

Additional Food Truck Roundups are set for Aug. 20 and Sept. 17. For more information about those events, visit desplaines.org/foodtruckroundup.
