On The Border partners with church to host Hilltop Community Supper May 14
First Congregational Church of Dundee hosts Hilltop Community Suppers, an outreach effort that offers a free meal on the second Tuesday of the month. It’s open to any community member who would enjoy a warm, cooked meal.
The next free supper will be a “drive-through” and “to-go” dinner offered on Tuesday, May 14, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., or as long as meals last, via the parking lot driveway of the church
There will be no dining in the church building. The May menu will feature a Mexican meal provided by On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina of Algonquin – fresh tortilla chips with homemade salsa, a cheese enchilada, a beef soft flour taco with all the fixings, refried beans, Mexican rice, black bean and corn salad and sopaipillas (fluffy Mexican pastry) with sauce.
This is the ninth year that the restaurant has sponsored an entire dinner in support of Hilltop Community Suppers.
Jeff Yale, general manager of On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, stepped forward in 2015 as we were planning our first suppers and generously offered to supply a complete meal that first year. He and his staff have continued to supply the May meal serving the community for these nine consecutive years.
The supper will be run entirely by volunteers who will assemble and serve the meal. Social distancing practices will be observed as we continue to take all precautions to ensure a safe experience for all participants and guests. Dinners are offered at no cost, but freewill donations are gladly accepted to help sustain the meals and any additional contributions are accepted at any time. Come join this “drive-through” gathering of community members.
