Auditions for ‘Evil Dead the Musical’ May 13-14

Actors 18 years and older are needed as the College of Lake County theater, music and dance departments bring a classic horror comedy franchise to the stage in its musical form with a production of “Evil Dead the Musical” by George Reinblatt. Auditions are 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14, at the CLC Studio Theatre in Grayslake.

Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s all up to Ash (a housewares employee turned demon-killing hero) and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. “Evil Dead the Musical” will have audiences rolling in their seats and screaming for more.

“I think this musical is a great opportunity for audiences to lose themselves in the over-the-top hilarity of a cult-classic franchise,” director Brian Gill said. “I first saw Evil Dead when I was far too young, and it terrified me. I jumped at the opportunity to direct this musical adaptation and share it with audiences both old and new to the mythos.”

Actors need to prepare one minute of a song from “Evil Dead” or from a show with a similar style of music and a one-minute memorized monologue of their choice. A piano accompanist will be provided. Actors need only attend one day of auditions and should bring an acting resume, if possible. Callbacks are 6:30-10 p.m. Thursday, May 16.

Rehearsals begin Wednesday, May 22. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday evenings until tech and dress rehearsals, which are July 6-11. Performance dates are at 7:30 p.m. July 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20; and at 2 p.m. July 14 and 21. For more information, contact director Brian Gill at gillb@uwp.edu or Craig Rich at crich@clcillinois.edu

Warning: While extremely hilarious, this show contains adult language, sexual language and adult themes. It’s rated “R” and may not be appropriate for children.
