Bolingbrook Golf Club slated for LIV Golf tournament in September

After a month in limbo, Chicago’s return to the LIV Golf Tour schedule was formally announced Tuesday.

Bolingbrook Golf Club will host the circuit’s individual championship from Sept. 13 to 15. It’ll be the circuit’s next-to-the-last event of a 14-tournament season.

“The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers,” said LIV commissioner Greg Norman in a statement preceding a news conference at the club. “This year it will be an incredible setting for a high stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title. We’re thrilled to return to Illinois with an event at Bolingbrook as we celebrate the season-long race and set the stage for the 2024 team finals.”

No date or site has been announced for the season-ending team finals yet.

Bolingbrook, a public course with one of the biggest clubhouse facilities in the Chicago area, has a 7,104-yard course designed by the late Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest. Its signature hole is the 156-yard par-3 15th that has an island green.

Rich Harvest Farms, Jerry Rich’s private club in Sugar Grove, hosted LIV events in the circuit’s first two seasons and both events were well received. In 2022 the individual champion was Australian Cameron Smith. Bryson DeChambeau captured the individual title last year. Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces won the team event in 2022 and DeChambeau’s Crushers ruled in 2023.

Rich initially invited the LIV Tour to return this year but later decided his membership would benefit from a year off from major tournament play. Bolingbrook hasn’t been the busy tournament site that Rich Harvest has become, but the course did host an event on the PGA Tour’s Forme Tour in 2021.
