GreenMan Theatre to hold auditions for fall production of ‘The Prom’ on May 25-26

Those interested in acting, dancing and singing in GreenMan Theatre Troupe’s production of the inspiring, award-winning musical comedy “The Prom” are invited to audition in May for the play’s fall performances.

Auditions, which will be by appointment only, will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26, at First United Methodist Church of Elmhurst, 232 S. York St.

GreenMan Theatre’s “The Prom” will run from Sept. 13 to Oct. 6, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

“The Prom” has parts that showcase both adults and young people, age 18 or older. Four of the adult characters are eccentric Broadway stars who are in desperate need of a new stage. So, when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue … and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow — but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with a courageous girl, parents and the town’s citizens and the result is love that brings them all together.

“The Prom” encourages gender diverse and color conscious casting. Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds, gender identities and abilities are encouraged to apply. “We are seeking a multiethnic cast of men, women and young adults with fantastic singing, acting and dancing abilities to play both principal and supporting roles,” said director Raegan Kotz. No one under age 18 may audition.

“You don’t have to be a professional dancer or singer to audition,” Kotz added. “I would never turn anyone away. I’m looking for all talent, and I’m especially interested in discovering new talent.”

“The Prom” cast will feature 13 roles, including Broadway performers and high school students, plus an ensemble of singers/dancers. Those auditioning for any of the eight primary roles must be open to emotional forms of communication, including hugging and kissing.

To schedule an appointment to audition, send an email to thepromauditions@gmail.com. To see the list of characters for “The Prom” or information about the audition process, go to greenmantheatre.org/the-prom.
