Awareness of power regulations is important

Thank you for bringing awareness to an issue that is personal to me and my community through the article “Legislation to regulate municipal power agencies on hold, but conversations continue.” As a resident of Naperville, I was shocked when I learned last fall that our city is 80% reliant on coal because of its contract with the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency.

When I heard the IMEA wants the contract to be extended to 2055, solidifying our reliance on coal for 30 more years, I had to act. I joined the Naperville Environment and Sustainability Taskforce. An initiative NEST is focusing on this month is ensuring residents are informed and educated about where our electricity is sourced.

I believe it is our collective responsibility to make the best decision for the generations to come based on what is best for the environment, not for someone’s pocketbook.

Thank you for your dedication to journalism that helps shine a light on important local issues as we work together toward clean, renewable energy.
