Illinois Ave. work set to begin in Palatine

Work is scheduled to begin this week on resurfacing Illinois Avenue from Quentin Road to Plum Grove Road in Palatine.

The village received about $1.15 million in Surface Transportation Program grant funds through the Northwest Municipal Conference, which will provide the majority of the money required to resurface the road and install a new multi-use path. The Palatine Park District also will contribute $140,000 to cover a portion of the new path.

The new multi-use path on the south side of Illinois Avenue from Quentin Road to Brockway Street will replace the existing sidewalk and path from Quentin Road to Elm Street and the existing sidewalk from Elm Street to Brockway Street.

Illinois Avenue will be accessible throughout the duration of the project, but at times there may be traffic delays due to the construction activities. There will be lane reductions and adjusted traffic patterns, but at least one travel lane will always be maintained.

Work is expected to be complete by September.
