North Shore School District 112 is pleased to announce Rebecca Hansen’s appointment as the new associate principal of Edgewood Middle School, effective July 1, 2024. The hiring was unanimously approved by the board of education at the April 16 meeting.

With an extensive background in both general and special education, Hansen has been instrumental in supervising and evaluating various educational programs and staff, including English language arts and special education. Prior to that, she served as a special-education teacher at Goochland High School in Virginia. She began her career as a social studies teacher at the middle and high school levels.

Hansen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social science teaching from Eastern Illinois University in 2013. She holds a master’s degree in education in K-12 special education from Virginia Commonwealth University and an advanced degree in educational leadership from Old Dominion University. Hansen is currently pursuing her director of special education certification at Lewis University.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rebecca to our team at Edgewood,” Deputy Superintendent Monica Schroeder said. “Her dynamic leadership qualities and profound dedication to fostering an inclusive and collaborative educational environment will make her an invaluable addition to our community. We are excited to see the positive impact she will make on our students’ learning experiences.”

Hansen will join the leadership team at Edgewood led by Louis Kotvis, who has been serving as the school’s principal since 2023.
