Man charged, again, with stealing liquor from a DuPage County store
A Chicago man has been accused, again, of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of liquor from a DuPage County grocery store.
Michael Howard, 43, of the 4800 block of Washington Boulevard, is charged with stealing $837 worth of liquor Wednesday night from the Mariano’s store in Lombard.
Howard was out at the time on pretrial release after being charged with stealing 26 bottles of liquor from an Elmhurst Jewel-Osco store on March 15. DuPage County court records indicate Judge Brian Telander revoked Howard’s release in that case Thursday morning.
In the newest case, Howard is charged with felony burglary, retail theft and fleeing and eluding a police officer. He is also charged with misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.
Authorities say that around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, police were called for a report of a theft in progress at the Mariano’s, 345 W. Roosevelt Road. When an officer arrived, police say Howard was pulling out of the parking lot.
When the officer tried to pull him over, Howard sped up, driving 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. Villa Park and Oak Brook police officers joined the chase, and Oak Brook officers stopped him by using spike strips to deflate his tires at I-290 and 25th Avenue near Maywood.
The resisting charge alleges he refused to get out of the vehicle when ordered, so officers pulled him out.
Authorities say they found 18 bottles of liquor in the vehicle and one in Howard’s pants.
