Stirring performances from school art program

On Wednesday evening, I was privileged to witness an astonishing display of creativity, dedication and talent exhibited by students from all six High School District 214 schools. The district’s Arts Unlimited student recognition and performance program clearly demonstrated the exceptional opportunities young adults can access when the educational environment is open and supportive of an arts curriculum based on student aspirations and ideals.

Memorable performances included choral presentations, string ensembles, and unique dance routines. Student recognition was also awarded for literary and artistic excellence. One presentation allowed the audience a peek into the creative mind of a young artist as she explained her inspired process and plan.

Congratulations to the students who planned, practiced and performed, as well as to all the students who participated in high school arts programs. Thank you to the teachers who mentored these talented young people. A winning combination.

I have never been so proud of our high school district as I was on April 3. Bravo.
