Downtown Naperville restaurant evacuated after ammonia spill

A downtown Naperville restaurant was evacuated late Monday after an ammonia spill in the basement of the eatery.

Naperville firefighters were called to Ramsay’s Kitchen at 39 W. Jefferson Ave. just before 9:15 p.m. for a report of a hazardous materials spill.

One person was transported to nearby Endeavor Edward Hospital for treatment, fire officials said.

Specially trained firefighters used “specialized absorbent materials” to remove the ammonia, then ventilated the building for more than 30 minutes before allowing staff to return inside.
