Geneva firefighters rescue woman from Fox River

Geneva firefighters conducted a river rescue mission just before noon Monday following a report of a woman jumping into the Fox River, officials said in a news release.

Three rescue boats and one dive team were dispatched to the river and began a downstream search for the woman. A witness said they saw the woman jump near the western edge of the downtown Geneva dam, authorities said.

Police identified the woman floating down the river near the Union Pacific West Railway trestle, officials said. A rescue boat found her near the Kane County Government Center and retrieved her from the water to start lifesaving measures.

The woman was taken to a hospital, according to the release. Her condition is unknown.

The Geneva Fire Department was assisted by the St. Charles and Batavia fire departments in the rescue.
