Cat dead following morning fire in Carol Stream condominium

Carol Stream Fire Protection District officials said a cat perished in a Tuesday morning fire inside a condominium on the 700 block of North Gary Avenue.

No injuries to any residents or firefighters were reported.

Firefighters responded to an activated fire alarm at the seven-unit, two-story complex just after 10:30 a.m.

Fire officials said flames were visible from a first-floor, one-bedroom unit when they arrived. Firefighters had the blaze under control in 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but fire officials believe it started in the unit’s living room.

Fire and smoke damage was limited to the single unit, fire officials said. It was deemed uninhabitable. The resident is receiving housing assistance through village resources.

No damage estimate was immediately available.
