A bridge solution

According to a recent Daily Herald article, the Long Grove Covered Bridge has been hit 66 times since 2020. It is surprising that this continues to happen and that they keep pouring money into fixing it.

Here’s a possible once-and-done solution: Maybe there could be 8-inch metal beams cemented 6 feet into the ground on both sides of each entrance with a beam that extends overhead just below the bridge entrance level. It could be covered with a wooden jacket, so it doesn’t change the appearance of the bridge. Then when a truck hits it, it would rip the top of the truck and not damage the bridge. Then if needed, just the wooden jacket could be replaced.

I think that could put an end to the Long Grove Village Covered Bridge saga and Long Grove could instead be in the newspaper for the many unique things they have to offer.
