Young gymnast wins all-around state championship

Emmy Terrell, a 9-year-old gymnast from Palatine, won the All-Around State Champion title at the recent Illinois USA Gymnastics Level 4 state championships in Aurora.

This title marks the second all-around state championship win for Emmy in back-to-back seasons. Emmy also won the state title for floor exercise and balance beam, with a season high score of 9.675.

Emmy’s state winning all-around score of 38.225 was the highest score in 13 out of 15 sessions and ages combined, topping 445 gymnasts.

The third-grader at Jane Addams Elementary school in Palatine holds eight career first-place all-around titles, as well as 18 career individual event titles.

Emmy is training in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic program at Bartlett Gymnastics Center.
