Lombard quilter named semi-finalist in International Quilt Show

Sandra Cord from Lombard is a semi-finalist for 2024 AQS QuiltWeek set for April 24-27 at the Schroeder Expo Center in Paducah, Kentucky. She has been chosen to display the quilt, “Fun With X’s and O’s,” along with 387 others in this American Quilter’s Society contest.

First- to third-place awards, as well as honorable mention, will be awarded in 16 categories, along with nine overall awards. Winners will be announced at the awards presentation, Tuesday, April 23.

More than $127,000 will be granted, including $20,000 for the Janome America Best of Show Award and $12,000 for AQS Best Hand Workmanship Award, BERNINA of America Best Stationary Machine Workmanship Award, and the Handi Quilter Best Movable Machine Workmanship Award.

All semi-finalist quilts will be displayed at the show, which is expected to draw more than 30,000 people.

Society president Bill Schroeder says, “The quilts on display continue to get better each year as the technology and creativity of the quilter continues to evolve. The attendees will have no shortage of inspiration to continue or start new projects of their own. We are so thankful for our sponsors, everyone who enters our contest, vendors at our shows, and those who stop by to see the art.”

The American Quilter’s Society hosts several shows annually, each with its own contest. Besides the Paducah, Kentucky show, AQS hosts other prestigious shows in Daytona Beach, Florida; Branson, Missouri; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
