Consider all factors before embracing EVs

I take a certain amount of umbrage with Keith Peterson's latest article about choosing an EV car based on politics. The entire article appears to have a bent toward the need for EVs, without fully addressing the negatives.

Agreed, Mr. Peterson states American's are slow to adapt EVs because of the charging infrasturctre, unfamilartiy with the product, and of course the recent happening of EV batteries struggling this January against a cold Chicago winter.

However, he did not address the facts that, while appearing to help the environment, EVs cars have other issues. Producing, as well as disposing of EV batteries is very detrimental to our ecology.

Adding to the high cost of replacing the batteries is the weight of the cars themselves, which in turn will require tires to be replaced more frequently, and also the reconfiguring of roadways and guard rails for these vehicles. The current prohibitive cost of EVs is also something that the average consumer cannot afford in today's economy (in spite of the rosy picture being painted by today's administration).

Before we as a nation make such a huge push to get on the EV bandwagon, we should investigate all the pluses and minus of EV, hydrogen and any other alternatives. To just choose EV as the “flavor of the month” going forward is just as dumb as choosing an alternative based on a political party preference.
