Former clerk Kobler sworn in as Vernon Township supervisor

Former Vernon Township Clerk Tim Kobler was sworn in Monday as the township’s new supervisor.

He succeeds Jonathan Altenberg, who stepped down in January after more than six years in the post.

Kobler, the clerk since 2021, is a 20-year Buffalo Grove resident and a retired police sergeant with a 25-year background in law enforcement.

He said he will focus as supervisor on enhancing resident experiences and implementing cost-efficiency measures where they are needed. He also said it’s crucial that residents are aware of and have access to township services, including the food pantry, emergency assistance and senior services.

“I’m excited to be given this opportunity to help lead the township,” Kobler said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the residents of Vernon Township as their clerk and I will ensure that the high quality of service they are accustomed to, and deserve, continues.”

During his police career, Kobler received the Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association in 2005 and the Valor Award in 2008 from the 100 Club of DuPage County

He also received the Fred Bornstein Memorial Coaches Award from the Buffalo Grove Park District in 2014, and the O’Rourke Award from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council in 2020.

“We were fortunate to have a strong leader in Tim who was willing and ready to serve as our new leader,” township Trustee Phil Hirsh said. “Tim has shown his dedication to the township not only in his work as the township clerk, but also through his years of volunteer efforts with our food pantry.”
