Breach of ethics

Under what bizzarro world does a judge try a case against the person who appointed her to the bench? How could not recusing yourself under those circumstances not be mandatory? We all know that the Supreme Court justices do not feel any compunction to have a Code of Ethics but all of the other federal judges do sign one. This certainly seems that we absolutely have the finest justice system that money and power can buy.
