Palatine Jaycees spread springtime cheer on Easter weekend

Every year the Palatine Jaycees hosts a free Egg Hunt for children of the community. The event includes multiple egg hunts, arts and crafts, a visit with the Easter Bunny and treat bags.

The project co-chairs Becky Adamson and Jessie Levin began planning the event in January.

“It’s a great way to serve the community and enjoy the spring,” said Adamson.

This year more than 1,100 children attended the event with their families. The threat of rain and muddy fields did not stop the fun with six waves of egg hunts for all age groups.

“It’s so rewarding to see all of the families enjoying the day together,” said Levin. “It takes a lot of planning, but it is worth it when you see it all come together.”

After this year’s event ended, the Jaycees found new ways to spread the cheer of the season, by donating the remaining prepared gift bags to Northwest Community Hospital’s Pediatric ER.

“We estimate that we had about 125 bags of treats left over. We wanted to find a way to put them to good use,” said Adamson.

The co-chairs delivered the treat bags to the hospital Saturday afternoon so children unexpectedly spending the holiday in the hospital have something to brighten their day.

The Palatine Jaycees are a group of young adults, ages 21-40, who serve the community through leadership development opportunities. Upcoming events include Hometown Fest, Palatine’s Fourth of July celebration, and Fall Back Brew Fest.
