Makray Memorial Golf Club named winner of The Knot Best of Weddings 2024

Makray Memorial Golf Club, a premier wedding venue in Barrington, recently won The Knot Best of Weddings award for the 12th consecutive year.

Its wedding coordinators — Laurie Hudak, Leeza Grosvenor and Stacie Wojtkowski — guide couples through every step of the process from initial consultations to the final celebration.

Paul Makray Sr. started a public golf course in 1962 called Thunderbird. His vision was to create a family-friendly golfing experience without the exclusion of membership. Nearly 10 years after Makray’s death in 1999, his family decided to honor him by remodeling and revamping the course and clubhouse in June 2002.

Nearly three years later, Makray Memorial Golf Club officially opened as an 18-hole championship caliber public course with a stately ballroom that has floor-to-ceiling windows peering out over the course and a wrap-around stone veranda patio. There’s also an onsite restaurant, The Oak Terrace Grille. The culinary team includes Executive Chef John Hennessy and Sous Chef Mike Bataglia.
