Aurora church blesses 76 handmade prayer shawls for needy

Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora blessed 76 handmade prayer shawls during Sunday worship.

On behalf of United Women in Faith, a church women's group, Aurora resident Mari Curless led a group prayer blessing of the covers.

The event culminated a year of volunteer work by four Wesley members and two nonmembers. Curless said shawls will be donated to local needy persons.

The Wesley United Methodist Prayer and Friendship Shawl Ministry sponsored the project. Curless said, “Shawls of different sizes, shapes and colors were lovingly crocheted or knitted by both members and nonmembers of Wesley.

“They are given with prayers of appreciation, joy, thankfulness and inspiration for both physical and spiritual healing. We pray that they will affirm friendship, celebration and joy.”

Curless thanked donors of yarn and other materials, volunteer crafters, persons who identified recipients, persons who delivered or mailed shawls and those who prayed over the covers. She invited congregants to take shawls for people who would benefit from them.

Wesley Lead Pastor Rev. Tammy Scott invites the public to Sunday worship services at 10:30 a.m. in person or online at 9:30 a.m. at wesleyumcaurora.online.church/.
