Elgin Ikes hosts April 2 program on river health with Friends of the Fox River

On Tuesday, April 2, the Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will host a program on the Fox River presented by Gary Swick.

Swick is the president of the Friends of the Fox River. The Elgin resident has been an environmental educator for 50 years and active in local environmental issues and restoring natural areas.

He will discuss the health of the Fox River and the current river restoration efforts to re-establish its most endangered animal group-fresh water mussels. Other topics will include river cleanups, watershed education opportunities and dam removal.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

The Elgin Chapter has had a rich history in the health of the Fox River including supporting the construction of the Walton Islands in downtown Elgin. The program is free to the public and will last approximately 1 hour.
