Eclipse featured at Local Author Showcase April 3 at Anderson’s Bookshop-Naperville
Did you know eclipses have a season?
“Eclipse seasons” happen less than six months apart when the lunar orbit is perfect for Sun, Earth, and Moon eclipse alignments to occur. Each season lasts only 34.5 days and during each, at least one solar and one lunar eclipse will occur. Total solar eclipses occur much less often, in any month, and anywhere on earth. That is why they are called “once in a lifetime” events.
Yet Monday, April 8’s total solar eclipse will be the second to cross the U.S., less than seven years after that of Aug. 21, 2017.
The next won’t be until 2044, crossing Montana and North Dakota only; and then in 2045, crossing California through Florida.
Local author Liz Bockelman includes this and other surprising eclipse information in her eclipse picture book “Rana Eclipso Rising: A Total Eclipse of the Sun Story.”
