A consummate musician who has performed with major U.S. orchestras and ensembles across the world, internationally renowned pianist Orli Shaham is heralded by critics on four continents for her grace, subtlety, and brilliance.

On April 6-7, Shaham will perform Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra at the Hemmens in Elgin.

The concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the cultural center, 45 Symphony Way in downtown Elgin. Free parking is available in adjacent city lots and parking garages.

ESO Music Director Chad Goodman will conduct the performances, which will also feature Brahms’ ”Academic Festival Overture” and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, “Ukrainian.”

Goodman will give a pre-concert chat, free to all ticket holders, one hour prior to each concert.

Tickets start at $20. Student tickets are just $10, and youth, age 17 or younger, are free with a paid adult. Having established an impressive international reputation as one of today’s most gifted pianists, Shaham is admired for her interpretations of both standard and modern repertoire. In February, she released the final volumes in her multi-year endeavor of recording all of Mozart’s piano sonatas.

Shaham is on the piano and chamber music faculty at The Juilliard School and served on the juries of both the Cliburn and Honens International Piano Competitions. She is a major presence on public radio coast to coast and is co-host and creative for NPR’s “From the Top.”
