College of DuPage board approves tuition increase for fall 2024

As part of a continued commitment to providing students top-quality educational opportunities balanced with its fiduciary responsibilities to local taxpayers, the College of DuPage board of trustees authorized an $8 tuition increase for the 2024-25 academic year.

Tuition and fees will be $152 per credit hour for in-district residents, $355 for out-of-district students and $425 for out-of-state students, beginning with the fall 2024 semester.

The college previously held tuition levels due to the ongoing pandemic and economic hardships. For the 2023-24 academic year, in-district tuition was $144 per credit hour, $13 below the state average for all 39 colleges in the community college system.

A recent Illinois Community College Chief Financial Officer survey found rates will increase from $2 to $25 per credit hours across the state’s community colleges for fiscal year 2025.

College of DuPage President Dr. Brian Caputo said the increase is necessary to ensure the institution’s sustainability amid rising operating costs.

“Over the past several years, the college has implemented nominal increases but is escalating those efforts to ensure the institution can continue to provide resources to our students and the community,” he said. “This increase allows COD to continue its commitment to higher education, while addressing rapid inflation and its projected impact on our budget.”

COD Board Chair Christine Fenne said the college’s emphasis remains on student success.

“While this is a necessary step to ensure we can provide our students access to the resources they need to succeed, College of DuPage remains significantly underpriced relative to other community colleges. The college provides many scholarships and financial assistance opportunities for those students in need.”

College of DuPage is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Serving more than 26,000 students each term, College of DuPage is the largest public community college in the state of Illinois. The college grants seven associate degrees and offers more than 170 career and technical certificates in over 50 areas of study.
