Too-bright headlights need to be banned

So when are we going to ban those obnoxiously bright headlights? Anyone who drives after dark knows how much harder it is to see now than it was 10 years ago. Driving with those headlights in the opposite lane of traffic makes it much more difficult to see your own lane’s lines. Trying to turn left at an intersection while they’re staring you down from the opposite left turn lane makes it impossible to see oncoming cars. Just driving with them behind you (especially on a pickup truck) puts huge green spots in your vision that can lead to accidents or death. Excessively bright headlights are a clear and present danger and the state or federal government should step in.

This is absolutely what government is for. There are no freedoms being taken away by banning these headlights, except perhaps the freedom to blind your fellow drivers, or the freedom to light up a football field with your Ford F-150. The ban’s only effect would be to make the already dangerous and adult task of driving a car safer for the people that governments are meant to protect.

Next time you strain your eyes to see past those awful lights, which will probably be soon, please contact your local representatives. It doesn’t matter how late at night it is… we’re trying to wake them up, after all.
