Claims of mass voter fraud are fear-mongering

This is in response to Monday’s letter from a reader in Libertyville who feels threatened that our election will be upended by the thousands of votes from undocumented immigrants.

Now I accept that all ideas are welcome here at the Daily Herald’s fencepost, but is there no filter for silly, easily refuted conspiracy theories? And is there no end to the gullibility of folks on the far right to succumb to any old inflammatory notion? Voter fraud, while not non-existent, does not occur on a scale large enough to change elections in this country. And undocumented immigrants are not lining up to vote in our elections.

They would have us believe that the thousands upon thousands of poor souls that leave their homes fleeing the turmoil, corruption and street violence of Central America, are risking everything to make this dangerous journey -so they can vote for Joe Biden? Of course. They risk all that and jury duty.

He goes on to describe the risks of election interference on a potentially “massive” scale. This frankly is just fear-mongering, propagated by the right, in support of the next Big Lie.

The Big Lie has never even passed the smell test. If such a thing were true and Democrats “stole the election” in 2020, please explain why it was only for Joe Biden. Why did they not “steal” sufficient Senate and Congressional seats?

Also, I’m still waiting for that big reveal; that mountain of evidence that proves any of the claims the former president has made about election interference. After nearly four years, the former president has offered Americans no such proof. No, his legal defense in court has not been to offer any factual evidence, only questionable legal theories and delay after delay after delay.
