Buffalo Grove men charged with attempted murder in road-rage shooting

A pair of Buffalo Grove men face attempted murder charges in what authorities are describing as a road-rage shooting on Route 53 in Palatine.

Malik Sutherland, 20, and Victor Ponce, 20, were arrested Tuesday after a two-month investigation into the Jan. 17 shooting, Illinois State Police said.

According to state police, the shooting occurred at Route 53 and Lake-Cook Road during a road rage incident that began on I-290. The victim’s vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.

After recovering evidence from the victim’s vehicle, conducting numerous interviews and photo lineups, and executing several search warrants, investigators identified Sutherland and Ponce as suspects, state police said.

Both have been ordered held in the Cook County jail pending May 3 court appearances, jail records show.
