Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana Scouts host area-wide Scouting For Food Drive

Pathway to Adventure Council (PTAC), Boy Scouts of America, in collaboration with Northern Illinois Food Bank, is proud to announce its annual Scouting for Food Drive to combat hunger in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. At a time when food donations are more crucial than ever, PTAC’s Scouting for Food Drive aims to make a tangible difference by providing essential resources to local food banks and pantries that benefit our neighbors who struggle with food insecurities. During last year’s drive, PTAC Scouts rallied together to collect an impressive 75,000 donations, underscoring the profound impact of community collaboration.

On Saturday, April 6, more than 1,500 local Scouts will canvass their communities and distribute informational flyers that instruct residents to leave donations on their doorsteps after 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. At that time, Scouts will facilitate the pickup of donations, ensuring that the contributions swiftly reach those who need them most. Suggested donations include canned goods, boxed goods, packaged foods, baby formula, personal hygiene products and any other nonperishable, nonexpired donations.

In addition to the neighborhood canvassing, PTAC’s Young Professional board is conducting PTAC’s inaugural Corporate Scouting for Food Campaign. Through this initiative, PTAC seeks to engage local companies in the fight against hunger by partnering with them to gather donations.

After informing the Salvation Army Food Pantry in downtown Chicago about a participating company’s commitment to raise donations for their location, the representative was overjoyed. Their voice resonated with gratitude, understanding the critical impact these donations would have on their pantry, which had been nearly depleted to help the increase of immigrants and people struggling with food insecurities and homelessness.

Pathway to Adventure Council extends an invitation to all community members to participate in this noble endeavor. Together, let us transform compassion into action, making a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors and fostering a community of kindness and generosity.
