Garcia, Tepe lead in Democratic primary races for Kane County Board
One Democratic incumbent on the Kane County Board appeared to secure his party’s nomination, while another could lose his seat.
Unofficial vote totals show Sonia Garcia leading incumbent Ron Ford in the race to decide the Democratic nominee for the District 6 seat on the county board.
With all precincts reporting, Garcia received 377 votes, and Ford got 251 votes.
Unless the Republican Party slates a candidate, the Democratic nominee will not have an opponent in the fall.
In the Democratic primary for county board District 22, incumbent Vern Tepe of Elgin appeared to beat Randy Hopp.
With all precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals showed Tepe with 930 votes and Hopp with 293 votes.
Tepe will likely face Republican David Teas in the fall.
“I chose to run a positive race,” Tepe said. “I am pleased with the win and very happy with the people who supported me.”
Tepe said he looks forward to the race in November and a campaign based on the issues. “I would hope with the kind of energy and results that I’ve gotten that I’ll continue to prevail and win the race,” he said.
