Lots of learning and fun at Schaumburg Library for Week of the Young Child

Schaumburg Township District Library is set to celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 6-12, with programs for children five and under and their caregivers.

The Week of the Young Child was established in 1971, by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, as a way to recognize how the early childhood years lay the foundation for children’s success in school and throughout life. This year, Schaumburg Library is celebrating this special week with programs for little ones ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Start the week with a special kick-off event. Children ages 0-5 and their caregivers can drop in at Schaumburg Library’s Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, to explore a variety of hands-on activities for little learners, including some sponsored by local preschools and child care organizations.

Then, try a lively musical adventure full of singing, dancing and exploring musical instruments. Music Monday, for ages 0-5 with a caregiver, will be held Monday, April 8, 10-10:30 a.m., at Schaumburg Township District Library’s Hanover Park Branch, 1266 Irving Park Road, in Hanover Park and 6:30-7 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library’s Hoffman Estates Branch, 1550 Hassel Road, in Hoffman Estates. Tasty Tuesday, for ages 3-5 with a caregiver, will be held Tuesday, April 9, 1-2 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library’s Central Library. Registration is required for this program.

When children build together, they develop teamwork and social skills. Join the Library for cooperative games, group challenges and other ways to create and collaborate. Work Together Wednesday, for ages 3-5 with a caregiver, will be held Wednesday, April 10, 1-2 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library’s Central Library.

Next, let your child’s imagination run wild exploring with a variety of art styles and mediums. Dress for mess for Artsy Thursday, held Thursday, April 11, 10-11 a.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library’s Central Library.

Finally, wrap up Week of the Young Child with a storytime and self-guided activities that celebrate children’s first teachers - their families!
