A misguided response to SOTU speech

I read in the Daily Herald the remarks about Biden from freshman Alabama Sen. Katie Britt in her Republican rebuttal to the president’s State of the Union Speech, she called Biden “a dithering and diminished leader.” She went on to say that “for years the left has coddled criminals and defunded the police — all while letting repeat offenders walk free.”

In watching the SOTU myself, I saw zero evidence of either diminishment or dithering from Biden, but rather, I did see a concise and intelligent summation of the current affairs of the United States and of the world, delivered in a forceful and spirited fashion. He even seemed to enjoy sparring with his detractors.

I think that people are making far too big of a deal about Biden’s age. Mentally he’s on his game and physically, he just received a clean bill of health from his doctors. Nobody can read the future — why are people so darn certain that he’s not up for the challenge of serving as president for another four years? He seems to be a very healthy person for someone of his age, and I’m absolutely certain that he must have some of the best medical care in the country available to him.

Back to Katie Britt and her comment about “coddling criminals” and “defunding police.” While there is sometimes talk of defunding police, point to me any examples where that has actually happened. I don’t remember either reading about or hearing about any instances of that, either at the local, state or federal level.

And as for “the left coddling criminals” I’m laughing out loud, as we all know that ever since Trump came down his golden escalator in 2015, the right has — and continues to do so — coddled cadres of criminals — just to name a few, Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, George Santos, Rudy Giuliani, Don Jr. and Eric — and of course the ultimate criminal, Trump. Somebody remind me why all of the above mentioned people are still walking around as free men?
