Woman charged with reckless homicide, DUI in Sugar Grove crash
A woman has been charged with reckless homicide, accused of killing someone in a crash on Route 56 in Sugar Grove.
Darci Klomhaus, 22, is also charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence — causing death, disobeying traffic control devices, driving on the wrong side of the road, improper exit or entry to a controlled-access highway, improper lane use and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to Kane County court records.
The crash happened at 5:11 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2023. The charges were filed on Friday.
Klomhaus is free pretrial. A judge ordered her not to drive and to wear an alcohol monitor. Prosecutors had asked that she be detained pretrial.
The head-on crash happened on Route 56 near I-88. Klomhaus was driving a Jeep Wrangler, according to a Sugar Grove Police news release at the time.
The victim, 67-year-old Sergey Ageyev of Naperville, was driving a Subaru Forester west on a long ramp from I-88, exiting onto Route 56. Klomhaus was driving east in the westbound lanes of the ramp.
