Taxpayers should not fund developments

I have to respond that our village board in Mundelein wants to give Jack Bowes $400,000 of our hard-earned tax dollars to open a new eatery downtown. I frequent the eateries that they own now, but I am against giving away our tax dollars to help businesses make more money at our expense.

With the cost of everything going up and up, we need to save money and lower our taxes, not just give it away and call it an improvement to the community.

I for one would like to see all of the incentives done away with. If you want to open a business, then get your own loan and give it a go. The taxpayers get nothing out of it except lighter wallets and maybe a full stomach if they can afford to eat out after we get our outrageous tax bills coming soon.

It is time to rein in this spending that is going to cost us down the road. It is also time to get rid of all of the TIFs. If rich developers want to build, they can finance it. I would agree to incentives if the village would get part ownership of the establishment or all of the townhomes being built. I have lived in Mundelein since 1968 and have seen many changes, some for the good and some for the bad.
