Warren Township students create healthy cookbook for community service project
Warren Township High School students submitted breakfast recipes last month that were compiled into a healthy community online cookbook by the student Community Service Committee.
The e-book was created “to encourage healthy eating habits and to start off students’ day in a good way,” said Sharon Pharr, a junior and leader of the Community Service Committee.
The book also aims to raise awareness of Keeping Families Covered, a local nonprofit that helps families in need.
Pharr said the committee has a different project every year. It is part of Future Business Leaders of America, a national student organization.
Students from all grades were encouraged to submit recipes for the virtual cookbook.
The committee put up flyers and advertised the cookbook as much as possible to solicit submissions. Pharr said the committee collected submissions for about a month and finished compiling the e-book in mid-Feburary.
About 20 submissions, including recipes for scrambled eggs, smoothie bowls and salmon bagels, are in the book.
