Mom facing charges after school security guard threatened, police say

The mother of a Maine West High School student is facing charges after threatening a security guard there, police said.

Sandra Soto Hernandez, 41, of the 1800 block of South Mannheim Road in Des Plaines, is charged with threatening violence to a person at a school and contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor.

The confrontation that led to the charges occurred Feb. 23 at the school after Soto Hernandez’s 17-year-old son was involved in a fight, police said.

Soto Hernandez was called to the school and was told her child couldn’t return the rest of the day. Soto Hernandez and the teen were back at Maine West less than an hour later, and she threatened a security guard who stopped them, according to a news release.

The teen is charged with violating unspecified local ordinances, police said.

Police wouldn’t say what charges because of the teen’s age.
