Stark contrast between candidates for president

The divisions in our state of the union were on sharp display Thursday night. The president delivered a vision with vitality and optimism. His picture is brighter for four more years.

In response, the junior senator from Alabama promised to have our backs. Although pointing out the troubles managing our border, the young senator voted to defeat the bilateral legislation she had codesigned addressing those problems. Rather than our backs, it was politically motivated betrayal.

We are known for the company we keep. The prime minister from Sweden, NATO's newest member nation, witnessed our democracy as the president's guest. Today, the former president's guest in Florida is Putin's supporting autocrat from Hungary.

We have a distinctive and directional choice to make. My prayer is we choose to continue moving forward.
