New park coming to Elmhurst neighborhood
Elmhurst Park District leaders will hold a ceremony this month to break ground on a new park along the Salt Creek Greenway Trail.
Pick Park will feature playgrounds, games tables, a shade shelter, adult fitness equipment and a bike repair station at 151 Monterey Ave. A split rail fence also will provide a buffer to the trail.
Officials designed the park based on feedback from residents in the Pick subdivision. It’s in an area of Elmhurst designated as a park desert during the district’s last comprehensive planning process, “Vision 2020.”
To make the way for the park, the district acquired 1.01 acres in the neighborhood in 2021 and 2022. Last year, the district received a $340,300 state grant to fund half the cost of the development.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23. The district expects to complete construction by June 30.
