Palatine man accused of criminal sexual abuse

A Cook County judge ordered the pretrial detention Sunday of a 40-year-old Palatine man charged with sexually abusing a woman in her home, authorities said.

Juan Ramirez-Perez faces one count of criminal sexual abuse with force, Cook County sheriff’s police said.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies called at about 6:56 a.m. Saturday to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Long Valley Drive near Palatine met with a 26-year-old woman who said a man had touched her without her consent.

While it was happening, she reported, the man told her to keep silent, saying he knew where she worked. He then left the apartment through the kitchen window, she said.

A witness who lived in the apartment told sheriff’s police Ramirez-Perez had been a guest the previous night, sleeping inside a bathtub of the bathroom where the alleged abuse took place. The witness provided detectives with a photo of Ramirez-Perez and information on where he lived.

Detectives went to Ramirez-Perez’ home, found he matched the photo and description and arrested him, authorities said.

Ramirez-Perez is scheduled to return to court Tuesday.
