Bartlett man charged with DUI, possessing controlled substance, after crash

A Bartlett man was charged Wednesday for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of drugs after his vehicle collided with another in his own village.

Neel Patel, 26, also was cited by Bartlett police for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

At about 8 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Schick and South Bartlett roads.

An investigation determined Patel had been driving a 2013 Nissan Altima westbound on Schick Road when it rear-ended a 2014 Lexus IS 250 stopped at the traffic light, police said. Neither driver was injured.

Police said Patel displayed signs of impairment and was found to be in unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Patel was granted pre-trial release and his next court appearance is on April 22 at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.
