Antioch police investigating multiple car burglaries
Antioch police issued an alert to residents after two cars were stolen and a dozen vehicles were burglarized early Friday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m., police officers responded to a report of two stolen cars in the Trevor Creek and Antioch Manor subdivisions. A pursuit ensued after responding officers spotted the vehicles, but command staff terminated it out of concern for public safety once speeds reached 100 miles per hour in the downtown district, authorities said.
Out of the two vehicles stolen, one was being warmed up in the driveway by the owner, and the other is believed to have been hot-wired, according to detectives. One of the vehicles was later recovered in Antioch.
Further investigation determined a total of 12 other vehicles were entered, one of which had its steering column stripped, officials said.
Police alerted Antioch residents to lock their car doors and secure their belongings at night in an online news release. All 14 vehicles in this case had been left unlocked, according to the release.
There was no evidence the car thieves were armed, police said.
