50 Aurora faith leaders, mayor come together to ‘Move Aurora Forward’

Fifty Aurora leaders of different religions came together to discuss ways the faith community of the state’s second-largest city could help move the city forward.

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin brought together the leaders for the Aurora InterFaith Alliance Leadership Breakfast, a time to break bread together, network, and discuss important community matters.

The 90-minute breakfast featured leaders of different faiths praying for Aurora, small group conversations on how to collaborate among religions authentically, and large group dialogue on the top issues facing Aurora that the faith community can address.

Mayor Irvin addressed the group and gave a “call to action” that included helping Aurora’s homeless community, rallying congregants for the upcoming Census recount, and directly asking faith leaders to serve as ambassadors of truth by regularly disseminating information and facts about Aurora.

“All your faiths stand for truth,” said Mayor Irvin. “I asked that you do what you have been called to do and do so well, and that is continue to speak the truth. I am asking you to help to be the voice about the things that are happening in Aurora – from City Hall to the community.”

The Aurora InterFaith Alliance will meet quarterly to address different topics. For information, visit www.aurora-il.org/2394/Aurora-InterFaith-Alliance.
